Jewish Home
&Garden Education
Adults participate in a dynamic interactive lecture with Rabbi David, while children ages 2-7 simultaneously engage in developmentally-appropriate activities on the same subject. Children and adults then join together to make a craft, which compliments the evening’s theme. Refreshments will be served.

Holidays
Holiday celebrations are an exciting part of the early childhood experience at Ganon Gil. Families are invited and enjoy sharing in their children’s emerging Jewish identity.
Here is a brief description of some of the fun events:
-
- High Holidays – Special observances of Rosh Hashanhah and Yom Kippur
- Sukkot – Party in the Sukkah! Enjoy the bounty of the season by making fruit salad and crafts with the Senior Program
- Simchat Torah – Lots of singing and dancing around the sanctuary
- Creation – Children dress in their favorite animal costume for a “Noah Parade”
-
- Thanksgiving – Families gather for a pot luck feast luncheon
- Chanukah – Children perform for their parents, followed by games, lots of latkas and other traditional food
- Tu B’Shvat – Raise money to plant trees in Israel and gather for a pajama story night with music and a 7-species seder
-
- Purim – Early childhood oriented carnival and the making (and eating!) of hamantaschen
- Pesach – Rabbi and Cantor visit for a family seder

Daily
Observances
The teachers, or morot, as they are addressed by the children, follow a Jewish curriculum which guides classroom activities, art projects and a general awareness of the biblical parashiot throughout the year. Hebrew instruction is introduced beginning in the youngest class and is integrated more as the children become older. Blessings are recited at each snack and meal time.
Promoting an understanding as well as actual practice of Jewish values are a part of everyday life at Ganon Gil. Children learn to perform mitzvot(commandments), give tzedakah(righteousness), engage in tikkun olam (caring for the world)projects and incorporate g’milut chasadim (acts of loving kindness) in their social interactions at school.
So that concepts can be explored and reinforced at home, parents receive a monthly newsletter, which is a guide to the focus of the Jewish curriculum for that period of time. The newsletter provides parents vocabulary words and other details about what the children are working on.
Shabbat is celebrated each Friday, usually in the sanctuary. Songs, stories and the blessings for the Shabbat table are included in the fun and child-friendly service.

Mosad
Shalom
The transition from Ganon Gil Early Childhood Center to Temple Adat Shalom’s religious school, Mosad Shalom, is a natural and seamless path for many families wishing to continue their children’s Jewish education.
At Mosad Shalom, learning is an ongoing process of study and practice that occurs in many places and times. Offered in each session, as well as the many yearly special events, are Jewish experiences that enable the students to appreciate and understand the depth, breadth and beauty of their heritage, which contribute to the development of a positive Jewish self-identity and pride in their Judaism. Good and consistent modeling of Jewish values by teachers, parents and congregational leaders is an integral component of the curriculum, with the goal of translating Jewish learning into Jewish living.
Each student is encouraged and enabled through study, dialogue, investigation and the arts to ask questions and search for answers. Teachings help students to make informed choices that will make living and the practice of Judaism personally and spiritually meaningful.
